PRE-FINISHED vs UN-FINISHED

Here’s another question I’m all ways asked, ” what’s the difference between un-finished and pre-finished wood floors?” Well here’s the low down. There realy isn’t much of a difference. They are both the same thickness, they can be sanded and refinished the same amount of times, they come in the same widths, and the same species. How ever un-finished are available in square edge and pre-finished are not. This is because since no sub floor is level, un-finished after they are installed are sanded smooth to take out any high or low spots, then they are finished. To compensate for the sub floor imperfections pre-finished floors have at least a micro bevel to a large bevel. These bevels help round off the edges of the pre-finished boards so you wont feel the high and low spot. Also pre-finished wood floors come in a limited amount of colors, where as un-finished wood floors you can customize the color of you floor. Since you have to sand and finish your un-finished wood floor, there is a drying and curing time you have to take into account be for you can walk and put furniture on it. Where as with pre-finished wood floors as soon as they are installed you can walk and put furniture on them. So depending on how soon you want to get on the floor or what color you want will determine which one is best for you.
